FAQ:

Q: Why did you include a bunch of random bloggers/twitter posts with equal weight as major news outlets?

A: While major news outlets may have inside sources, it has not been proven that they are superior to bloggers or hobbyists in terms of ranking draft-eligible talent. This is actually part of the goal of this project long-term. I began this project with the 2017 Draft and intend to continue on into the future. As the results from the 2017 Draft become apparent (I project we can do a proper analysis of this later in 2023), we can go back and compare results from the rankings and determine who was the most accurate in their rankings. Perhaps the data will eventually prove me wrong but for now I will lean on the side of having a large breadth of data rather than exclude people who put in the work because they are not renowned pundits. I do not own the privilege of gatekeeping draft analysis.

Q: Why did you exclude a certain ranking or mock draft that I know of?

A: If I excluded it, its either because its behind a paywall that was outside my hobbyist budget or its because I could not find it. Please comment on my Reddit or Substack post with a link and I will add it if I am able. I intentionally did not include rankings that are consensus/aggregates of other rankings, or rankings that are purely derived from NHLe.

Q: How can you compare Top-32 rankings with Top-224?

A: I understand the different ranking types can affect the data, which is why you see a lot of later-ranked guys with higher rankings than you might expect (since the data is missing). However, I do not feel these differences are negative enough to warrant splitting or omitting the data. I prefer that the data just speak for itself, and that I should not try to interpolate or compensate for this.

Thanks for viewing! This is a product of ~4 months of work to scour the web for data and enter it manually (for the most part, thanks to various sources spelling player names differently), compiling information on over 400 players.
