Appreciating Architectural Heritage through Adaptability
In this 20th century, building construction industry has evolved significantly where the emergence of new kinds of technology being explored and tested out. The implementation and exploration of these new technologies usually require experiment ground where traditionally lands are the only medium to be tested out with. However, in Johor Bahru City Centre there are several issues of insufficient land and changing of land use when demand shifted to commercial land use especially in heritage buildings or area which led to abolishment of buildings. This practice has led to a very unsustainable culture that is affecting the environment, society and economy. Therefore, this proposal explores the implementation adaptable architecture in architectural design and construction practice in Johor Bahru. This study is vital to provide alternative method towards more sustainable construction practices while preserving the historical fabric of Johor Bahru.
