Why Write

With Us?

National Writing Project teachers know that writing in community offers many benefits including developing critical literacy skills, building power skills, and supporting social emotional health.

Building the 2023 Small Poems, Great Writers slow marathon into your 2023 Spring Semester curriculum will offer you the opportunity to meet multiple academic standards with minimal class time.

Authentic writing is fun! Exploring who we are and sharing our individual stories with others is exciting. Learning more about others through their stories is an essential human experience. In addition to publishing with our community your writers can create poetry to share with family members at upcoming celebrations and special occasions.

Our slow marathon will include three stages, but each teacher and writing group leader will determine the pace and timing that works for their writing community:

  • Create and Celebrate (sharing nine writing invitations to write and share)

  • Craft and Critique (shaping small poems - resources tba)

  • Curate and Publish (celebrating and publishing our small poems - information tba)

Teachers and writing group leaders are invited to sign up here to receive support materials, invitations, and put your writers on the map! You choose the pace and timing of your group’s participation.
