The books are provided to students in Soft Forms (PDFs, drives etc shared in classrooms or via online means). There is no need for Hard Copies of these books and you will easily get through with the soft copies.
For lecture notes, you may keep a rough register where you can take notes during lectures as your instructor advises.
Lab manuals are bought from the stationery shop of the university so no need to consult any outside stores for them.
Students are advised to maintain 100% attendance in all courses. However, 20% absence is allowed in genuine cases. This can be confusing for students, so here is an example: if a course has two lectures per week, you are allowed to miss five or six lectures and still maintain an 80% attendance rate. For labs, which are once per week, you are generally allowed to miss two lectures and still maintain an 80% attendance rate. However, these policies may vary, so it is always best to check with your instructor or academic office to see how many days you can miss without falling below an 80% attendance rate. Students who fail to maintain an 80% attendance rate before finals will not be allowed to take the final exam for that course. This decision is ultimately up to the head of the department or academic office whether they should be allowed to sit or not.
Fast has 2 mid-term exams (generally take place after 5-week intervals) and 1 Final Exam. The weightage of finals is usually 50% and Mids of 15% each. (This can also be changed by the department or course instructors so it is just a general observation)
Quiz and Assignments are also part of total scores. Instructors/teachers may conduct quizzes as they wish. A detailed course outline is shared with students before the course begins that states all the weights, grading schemes, and topics to be covered in the course.
No need to bring anything like bags etc. to orientation day since it is going to be an introduction session with students by the campus faculty or director.
FAST follows absolute or relative grading schemes.
Most of the computing courses in fast are absolute graded and non-computing courses are relative.
The grading scheme is usually mentioned for each course in the course outline that will be shared with you on the first day of your class by your course instructor.
A document is also available for a detailed explanation of this scheme; NUCES Grading Policy
