Workshop 1 - Diverse perspectives and bold visions for the Inclusive Classroom

Group Norms: Please have the facilitator (or facilitators) identify themselves and identify one or more notetakers (could be the facilitator). Please be sure to share the speaking space. (Please write down all the names of the group members, unless members want to be anonymous.)

Discussion 1

1. Why is diversity important in your classroom? … at your school? …at the national level? …to you personally?

2. What did you find most irritating about the suggested readings/videos? What did you find most satisfying about the suggested readings/videos?

3. One of the questions on the pre workshop survey was what you needed to begin or continue this work. Please share your thoughts and ideas with your group.

Discussion 2

1. What do our classrooms look like now? What do we think is working? What do we think is not working?

2. What will the inclusive classroom and environment look like in 20 years? (This is an opportunity to think big before we ground our discussion and engage in actionalble, practitioner-based material development.

3. What are the possible actionable, practitioner based perspectives that will guide how we move forward?

Workshop 2 - Grounded Discussion & Curriculum Development and Revision

Discussion 1: Objectives, scope, plan

1. Articulate your idea of what you want to work on.

2. What are your objectives for these materials? Who are your students? What kind(s) of diversity are you working toward supporting?

3. What is the scope? (An activity? A course? Changes to a set of courses in a program?)

4. What are the important ideas from workshop 1 that you want to carry forward and incorporate into your work?

5. Questions at this point for the EDI consultants?

Discussion 2: Nuts and Bolts and concrete ideas

1. Please again reflect and check-in on your objectives and scope for your work. Do you need to revise? Re-scope?

2. Is each member’s needs being met?

3. How does the implementation address an inclusive perspective?

4. Begin thinking about how the group will divide the work.

5. What will success look like? How will you assess your work?

6. What are your questions for the EDI consultants?

Discussion 3. Next steps and roles and responsibilities

1. How will your group work? What are each member’s roles and responsibilities? Will there be subgroups? Will there be individual work? Who is the lead worrier .. who will make sure things are getting done / that everyone is heard / that members have the bandwidth (emotional / time / etc)?

2. We all have different constraints on our time - think about what is reasonable for your group and your members to commit to - be careful to not overcommit.

3. How will you share? We have a Discord server set up that you are welcome to use and that we will be using to share materials. You may also want to work via Google Docs, etc. The Gather.town space will remain open through February 2022 and you are more than welcome to meet in that virtual space at any time.

4. What is your work timeline moving up to workshop 3? What are your milestones?

5. Are there ways of communicating and interfacing with the EDI experts or other specialists at your institutions for help? (Either synchronously or asynchronously; What is the frequency of contact?)
