Take Action Against Inequity

Support BIPOC-owned businesses and farms

Advocate for policies that address health inequities

In your workplace/organization:

  • Do public spaces have at least one nongendered bathroom?

  • Do forms ask about gender? Do they need to? If yes, do they include nonbinary options? If no, why is that question on there?

  • Do HR policies support neurodivergent employees?

Donate to organizations that work to reduce inequities

Be an ally for LGBTQ kids and youth!

  • Find out more about how to be supportive - view the The LGBTQ Perspectives Project videos

  • Invite the local high school Queer-Straight Alliance to a job shadow day at your workplace

  • Oppose laws and policies that discriminate against trans youth participation in sports

It's important to use people's pronouns correctly

If you need more information about pronouns:

Using a trans person's chosen name is also important because it reduces suicidality and depression. Read the research.

Support our neighbors in recovery

Support neurodivergent and/or disabled people

We are lucky to have several local organizations that offer programming and resources - donate or volunteer to help them in their work!

When planning meetings or events, ask about access needs

Examples include:

  • sign language interpreters

  • image descriptions

  • quiet space for sensory overload

  • fragrance-free policies

  • strobe light warnings

  • wheelchair access

  • opportunities to ask clarifying questions

Food is medicine - Donate wisely to local food shelves

Many food shelf patrons in our area are looking for foods to help manage or prevent chronic health conditions. Donate things like:

  • Protein drinks such as Boost or Ensure

  • Canned vegetables and beans with no salt added

  • Low sugar items (less than 10 g per serving)

  • Peanut butter with no added sugar (even better if you can find it with no added salt)

  • Gluten-free/nut-free or other allergen-free foods
