Classroom Boot Camp is an Accelerator for UCLA Engineering Transfers program. Information on this page is for 2021 participants. Students will be split between the CS 32 Boot Camp & the M20 (Matlab) Boot Camp. Participants should enroll in Boot Camp if they need to take CS 32 or M20 in AY 2021 - 2022 OR they have taken CS 32 or M20 and want a refresher. Student who have not taken CS 31 should NOT enroll in the CS 32 Boot Camp.
Participants will spend 3 weeks learning the first 2-3 weeks of content from either CS 32 or M20. You will experience the rigor of the classroom, start working with eTransfers who will be taking these classes with you, and take a sample examination or work on a culminating project before performance counts.

Gabriel Alpuerto, M20 Boot Camp Instructor
Mechanical Engineering graduate student
At UCLA, I have been involved in a variety of organizations over the past four years. I regularly volunteer with engineering organizations (American Indian Science and Engineering Society, National Society of Black Engineers, Society of Latino Engineers and Scientists) focused on supporting minorities in engineering. These events include huge single days events where local grade schools are invited to UCLA to participate in STEM workshops. During the year, I worked in the Boelter Hall MakerSpace as a Staff Member where I assisted users in utilizing the space safely and efficiently while also maintaining the machines of the space. Finally, I participated heavily in the UCLA chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). I have participated in ASME’s Fabrication and Design Essential (FADE) and BattleBots projects, served as a FADE Lead and President of the organization.
When I am not studying or participating in these extracurriculars, I have some hobbies to give myself a break. I read a variety of books (ranging from epic fantasy to science fiction) and play videogames (mostly single player and RPG style games). I also have a Dungeons and Dragons group with my friends where I am the Dungeon Master.
In Fall of 2021, I am starting my Master's program at UCLA in Mechanical Engineering. As a former Transfer Bridge Mentor, I look forward to creating a wonderful experience for incoming transfers to get a jumpstart on their first year courses!

2nd year transfer from Mt. SAC, Computer Science
Please reach out to me on our Accelerator Discord server!
Hey everyone! My name is JJ and I am a rising 4th year undergraduate at UCLA studying computer science. I transferred from Mt. SAC and was a student-athlete (swimmer). Besides being active in the pool, I also had experience working in a startup as a software development intern. Moreover, I enjoy badminton, hiking, and scuba diving. I am looking forward to meeting you and I hope that you will enjoy the Accelerator Program 2021!

I am a rising 4th year mechanical engineering and math double major from Palo Alto, California. At UCLA, I am working at the Flexible Research Lab where I am helping to design new compliant mechanisms that can achieve properties impossible in conventional materials. When I’m not working on that, I like to watch and play soccer and explore nature areas around LA. However, I will talk about any sport with anyone at any time. As an Accelerator mentor, I hope to show the incoming class how spectacular their time at UCLA can, and will, be.

I am a rising 3rd year Computer Science and Engineering Students from Roseville, California. I am an active member in the Learning Assistant Program (highly recommend) and help teach courses such as CS32, CS33 and CS35L/97. This upcoming year at UCLA I will be working as an Engineering Ambassador where I will be giving tours and telling more people about the amazing opportunities UCLA has to offer. I also will be working in the Boelter Hall Makerspace where I assist users in utilizing the space safely and efficiently while also maintaining the machines of the space. In quarantine, I have been been learning how to paint (not very well) and I have also been riding my bike whenever I can. I'm looking forward to getting to know more about all of you over the course of this summer and hope to see you on Campus!

Hi there! I'm a rising senior from Oceanside, California studying Mechanical Engineering. Previously, I was a peer counselor with Samahang Pilipino Education and Retention (SPEAR) at UCLA and the activities coordinator for Pilipino in Engineering and Science (PIES). I've found a lot of passion through creating inclusive and empowering spaces for underrepresented and underserved students in higher education. In my free time, I love laughing at cat memes, playing Genshin Impact, and learning how to cook through YouTube tutorials. I've recently picked up roller skating, which I've learned makes me a danger to myself and others. I'll keep practicing, though!
I'm so excited to meet you all and see what the summer has in store for us. Welcome to UCLA!

Hey everyone! I am a rising 3rd year studying Mechanical Engineering, and I come from La Habra, California. My career interests lie in the biomedical, astronautical, or energy fields - any field that can have a world-changing impact. That’s what we’re here to do as engineers after all!
At UCLA I have been involved with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Design Build Fly (DBF), and Bruinspace. Each club offers worthwhile project experience that you really need to top off your UCLA experience as a whole. It’s also really satisfying to see the plane that you worked on maintain flight and operate as intended, as well as the robot that you sketched out on graph paper come to life.
When I’m not doing something engineering related, I’ll play frisbee or volleyball or some other sport, and maybe play some video games. As your mentor, I welcome you all to the program and hope to set you up for success here at UCLA and beyond!
Harvey Yu, Undergraduate Mentor, Team CS
Senior, Electrical Engineering
Please reach out to me on our Accelerator Discord server!
Songlin Yu (a.k.a. Harvey Android) is a rising senior at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he is majoring in Electrical Engineering with a concentration on integrated circuits. His interest in integrated circuits began in high school when he led a project on a four-wheel-drive electric car model. He learned a lot about circuit knowledge and was aspired to become an electrical engineer.
He also had lots of experience tutoring and teaching others. He has more than three years of tutoring experience, where he helped high school and college freshman students with their Math, Physics, and Programming classes. Moreover, he held a C++ programming class at a local church in August 2019 aiming at teaching high school students how to program and offering advice on applying for college.
Harvey also loves cooking. He once established a WeChat group selling his homemade food during the summer vacation in 2020. There, his communication skills and time-managing skills have significantly improved. Besides cooking, he will spend his spare time playing the piano and swimming.
