Sub-Based Activities

On this page you'll find information about the other sub-based activities we asked about as well as upcoming events.

The "There Are No Stupid Questions" (NSQT) was the favorite activity among respondents again this year!

The monthly free pattern also took over for our second most popular/favorite activity.

Popularity for featured designer and monthly competition have started to slow down.

The Monthly Free Pattern appears to be the most requested activity to see more of. Always keep an eye out for posts from WildVi0et as she frequently posts free patterns for everyone!

NSQT is a close second and we will also be sure to make this activity happen more often.

Withe Featured Designer switching to a two month schedule we'll be able to feature more craft fairs, NSQTs, and other new and fun ideas!

Comments, Questions, Concerns about Sub Based Activities

As a seller I would like more opportunity to offer discounts and such to everyone here.

We plan on having more craft fairs in the coming year. Also make sure you’re in the Continuous Craft Fair!

A thread for trading. (Or a link to an alternate place where those from this subreddit can go to) Whether it be patterns, kits, supplies, etc. Let people post items they have and are willing to trade for.

I would like to see a monthly swap/trades sticky where users can sell directly to each other -- maybe for swapping patterns that they've given up on, or being able to sell blank Target bags for stitchers who do not live in the US. I think it'd be nice to have a monthly meet-up thread as well, where users can comment and arrange for local meet-ups.

We’ve discussed a swap/trade/sell thread. Being that there are already a couple of subreddits designed for that purpose we’re going to hold out on making one ourselves. Check out these subs: /r/craftexchange, /r/stitcheslostandfound, /r/randomactsofcrafts.

Is the SAL an actual thread? I haven't seen it and it would be great to see which ones users participate in! Also, it would be helpful if the monthly free pattern were stickied since it gets buried

A longer term stitch-a-long could be fun, with a pattern only partially revealed? it might make the free pattern more social

I'd love to see a subwide SAL

We had a subwide SAL last year and forgot to take that verbiage out of the SOS for this year - apologies! There may be a chance for another one! We’ll just have to keep our eyes open ;)

Polls? eg. how do you start your thread, aida linen or evenweave, etc

A weekly or monthly technique/tip showcase that thoroughly delves into a specific technique, with multiple examples.

We’re looking at restructuring our Sticky posts and having Bi-Weekly “Happy Hours”. A place where people can chat and get to know each other, possibly have it be a Tip Corner, or other things of that nature. Be on the lookout for them!

I'm interested in designing my own patterns, perhaps it's interesting to others also? I find it fun but challenging, and would love to have a section where we could share advice and ideas about the actual designing of patterns, practical things like the workflow from one medium to another, from paper to photoshop to stitch software? Rather than just talking about the stitching itself.

Maybe we could use this as one of our upcoming Happy Hour posts!

I've said I'd like to see more of the 'no stupid questions thread' but I don't have a real preference - as I said before I mainly look at the FOs and WIPs. I support the 'no stupid questions threads' as they can really help new people take up cross stitch.

Forums like this attract newbies who don't know that they're asking the same questions everyone asks. Is there a way to be more helpful to them?

We’re hoping to post No Stupid Questions threads more often and we hope that these are extremely useful to newcomers! We also try to direct all newcomers to our FAQ/How To which has video and photo walk-throughs on what you need and how to get started with cross stitching!
