The rules for this challenge is pretty simple. Every Pokémon has a color in the Pokédex, and you have to make a team where all the colors match. For instance, you could have a team with a Forretress and a Vileplume on the same team, but not a Forretress and a Manaphy. Other things to be noted:

Pokémon must retain their colors throughout the battle. For example, Charizard-Mega-X is banned, because it changes from Orange to Black.
You must carry a full team of 3.
Shiny Pokémon may be used if their base forms share a color with the rest of the team.
