1 Timothy 2:1-15
Instructions on Worship
1I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— 2for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6who gave himself as a ransom for all men—the testimony given in its proper time. 7And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle—I am telling the truth, I am not lying—and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.
8I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.
9I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, 10but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.
11A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. 12I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. 13For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. 15But women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
St. Paul teaches us that we must pray and pray regularly...We need to pray not only for a few, but we are to pray for everyone...Political leaders, those in authority, rich, poor, friends and enemies...If Jesus gives us the commandment love one another, how can we not pray for everyone...Our duties as followers of Christ is to be Godly and Holy...We are to lead peaceful and quiet lives following His teachings...When we are not in peace and in quiet, we can lose our focus on Him...
God wants all men saved, not just a few of us and our friends...He wants all men to find knowledge and the truth...There is only One Mediator between God and man and that is the Man, Jesus Christ...He gave Himself as a ransom for all men...And for this purpose, St. Paul was appointed an apostle...Jesus made Paul the teacher to the Gentiles...His mission is to teach the Gentiles the Truth...
St. Paul says men are to pray, without anger and disputing...Women are to dress modestly and decent, with modest hair-dos and profess to worship God...A woman should learn quietness, just as men should...During Paul's time the culture was for a woman to be quiet, humble and submissive...Women would be saved in childbirth by Jesus Christ, because He was born or a virgin, without the assistance of a man...The Son of Man has a Father, who is God Almighty, and a tender, loving, faithful, holy mother, in Mary...
Jesus came to the world to testify to the truth...Everyone on the side of truth listens to Him (John 18:37)...When we search for this knowledge and this truth we need to be at peace, in quiet, in prayer without anger and dispute...We do not need to be distracted...St. Paul teaches that unusual dress, trying to be different, like unique hair styles can distract us in church, when we are searching for the truth...It might be like one today, dressing like another nation from half way around the world...And although the attire is appropriate for that society half way around the world, it would look different for you dressing in another culture...Different, extravagant, and unique styles can be distracting among worshippers...
The central part of Jesus life was the Father...He looked to God for everything...He was perfectly focused...The focus of our lives should also be the Father...When we live quiet and peaceful lives we can search for the way, the truth, and the life...When we are angry, disputing, and distracted we drift, and these things take away from our search for the knowledge of the truth...We then lose our focus on Him...
