Sgt. Major Richard Bernard Siccama, U.S. Army Retired CLEWISTON, Florida - Sgt. Major Richard Bernard Siccama, U.S. Army Retired, age 68, of Clewiston, passed away May 24, 2010, in Clewiston. He was born July 31, 1941 in Paterson, N.J., son of the late Nicholas Bernard Siccama and the late Anna (Easterhoff) Siccama. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving three tours. He was awarded two Bronze Stars and numerous commendation and meritorius service medals and retired from the Army after 27 years of service. He was a member of Clewiston Elks Lodge No. 1853 and Clewiston Country Club. Survivors include his sister, Alice Rickey (Steve) of Ocala; niece, Laura Hayes (Stan) of Loxahatchee; nephew, Todd Wilson (Debbi) of Ocala; grandniece, Alise Hayes and Miranda Hayes, both of Loxahatchee; grandnephew, Mason Wilson of Naples; and special friend, Vanessa Shabarekh of Clewiston.
I got the opportunity to talk to Richard on the phone for an extended period of time when I called him to see if he was the Richard Siccama who served with the 1st MIBARS. Richard was interested in attending a reunion but did not get the chance to attend one. I would have liked very much to have visited with him in person. -Don Skinner
