Sander was still in Vietnam in the fall of 1967. I don't recall when he went home.

Sandy visited me in California soon after his plane landed. He still was in uniform. I was attending college at the time and I believe his visit came in 1968. The next time we talked was a few months later and he was working for an insurance company in Illinois. Then we lost contact.

Sandy extended his time in Vietnam more than once. He told me once he really wanted to go to Europe but each time his time in Vietnam was about up he got orders for Fort Bragg. And in Sandy's mind, Det. A in Vietnam was better than Fort Bragg. A memory of Sandy is when the fuel tank was hit in April, 1967

(14 days before I was due to leave), Sandy slept through it all.
