Dr. Das is Associate Dean for Research in the College of Engineering and a Distinguished University Chair Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at The University of Texas at Arlington. He also directs the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Big Data (CARIDA), the Smart Agriculture Research Center (SARC), and the Database Exploration Laboratory (DBXLAB). Prior to joining UTA in 2004, he worked at Microsoft Research, Compaq, and the University of Memphis. He earned his B.Tech from IIT Kanpur and his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He is a Fellow of both IEEE and ACM.
His early research made foundational contributions to computational geometry and graph theory. His work later expanded to big data, spanning data management, analytics, machine learning, and data mining. He has contributed to keyword search in databases, time-series mining, approximate query processing, and deep web analytics, and fairness and explainability in data systems. Dr. Das has published over 200 papers, received major research awards, and served in leadership roles such as General Chair of SIGMOD/PODS 2018, Program Chair of ICDE 2024, and editorial boards of leading journals. His research has been supported by major federal agencies and industry partners.
Rommert Dekker is an emeritus professor of Quantitative Logistics at the Econometric Institute of the Erasmus University of Rotterdam. Prior to becoming a university professor he worked for 7 weeks with Shell, both in research as well as in their central office. He has worked on maintenance optimization, reverse and sustainable logistics, as well on container terminal and shipping optimization.
Dr. Yashar Ghiassi-Farrokhfal is a Senior Associate Professor (with ius promovendi) at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University. Additionally, he serves as the academic director of smart energy and sustainability at the Erasmus Center for Data Analytics (ECDA) and holds the position of Erasmus Uni. scientific lead at the Centre of Energy System Intelligence (CESI). He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto, Canada, and has numerous publications in esteemed journals, focusing on the topic of energy transition. Dr. Ghiassi-Farrokhfal has been continuously invited as guest speaker in leading energy discussion stages such as the ‘World Energy Congress (WEC)’, and has organized numerous conferences and workshops in the field of energy transition.
He has secured multiple large grants (total value of~75M Euros) to work on European and Dutch projects, including UTOPYS (largest digital twin for electricty networks), MODES (Data layer in energy markets), HyTROS (Hydrogen market), Com2Heat (composite-based heat network), MAGPIE (Energy transition in Ports), FlexSUS (municipal heat transition).
Employing a multi-disciplinary approach, he has delved into diverse facets of energy transitions such as sector coupling, microgrids, electric vehicles, hydrogen, energy storage, and market mechanisms at retail, wholesale, peer-to-peer, and bilateral levels. Notably, his recent interests include investigating the role of energy data and the associated challenges in the context of the digital energy transition.
Haridimos Kondylakis is an Associate Professor of Big Data Engineering at the Computer Science Department, University of Crete, and an Affiliated Researcher at the Institute of Computer Science FORTH.
