The aim of this project will be to take advantage of the Instagram platform (where SO many of our kids already are) in order to enable them to learn a little about photography and a LOT about descriptive writing, and responding to others in an acceptable manner on social media.

The first challenge is "Selfie". (They don't really HAVE to take a photo of themselves - it can be something that represents them. They can have someone take their photo if they want - all topics are up to their interpretation.)

If you wish, have them write their post on paper, collect it and give them feedback! (In the meantime, YOU are getting to know them, as well!)

During the second week (without a challenge) devote the last 10 minutes of a lesson to going in to Instagram, looking for the hashtags, and responding to other kids from your school, and other schools participating around the country (ONLY in English, of course)! Then announce the new topic.

- Be sure your students' accounts are PUBLIC otherwise no one (including you) will be able to find them.

Looking at hashtags.mp4Here's how to get the hashtag right!
- Be sure it ONLY includes the #1photo50words_(topic)
- If the topic has 2 words, do not leave spaces between the words. Tell your students to write the hashtag EXACTLY as it is on the first page of this site.
- If your students' hasntags are even SLIGHTLY different than the rest, they will not show up when you do a search for that hashtag.
