For those using an Android phone or Android tablet and who do not have the Zoom app already installed.
On this site, you will find listings for online meetings. Make a note of the Meeting ID. In the case of a URL the Meeting ID is the final 9 (or in some cases 10) digit numeric code at the end of the URL.
You can either click directly on it or else type it into your browser address bar (the only option if working from a printed list).
You will now be prompted to download from Google Play or from Zoom - Select the Google Play option and then Install when prompted and then the Open prompt.
You should be prompted with a screen "Start a Meeting" but click on the "Join a Meeting" prompt (Starting meetings is for Host users and you will have to sign up - do so if you wish to investigate further).
A screen titled "Join a Meeting" is displayed and the cursor positioned on Meeting ID - enter the 9 or 10 digit numeric code you earlier made a note of...and 2 lines below enter what you want to be known as eg "Fred S" or just "Fred" perhaps (otherwise it will default to your device name. The default Join options are "Video On" and "Audio off" it's ok to leave them as that and then click the "Join Meeting" prompt and you will be presented with a "Terms of Service and Privacy Policy" and if you wish to continue select the "I agree" prompt. Select the next "Got it" prompt giving Zoom access permissions and then allow video. You should then get a video preview! Select the "Join with Video"
Install "Zoom Cloud Meetings" from the Google Play Store and select the Open prompt
Follow steps 3 and 4 above
For those using an iPhone and have already downloaded the Zoom application. There are 2 ways to join the meeting;
If you provided with a URL, click on the URL. This will take you to a screen with "Join with Video" option and a Join the Meeting button. Click on this and you are in!
If you are launching the Zoom app, You will need to provide the Meeting ID. This is the 9/10 digit number that is there in the URL. Key that in and join the meeting.
If the Meeting Host has provided a password, you will need to key that in as well.
Well done you are now connected to the meeting! If you tap at the bottom of the screen you will see various setting options which you can tailor to your specific requirements in particular note the mute button (you may first need to change to device audio) and the raise and lower hand.
For subsequent use once installed I choose to load the Zoom app first and enter the 9/10 digit Meeting ID (or selecting from a drop down history list) as it is maybe slightly quicker than clicking on the URL but your choice if you don't like typing in long numbers
Just like face-to-face meetings it is usual to arrive 5 mins early if the host has enabled that and you can chat to other participants if you want, select "Participants" after you tap at bottom of the screen. Bring your own coffee and biscuits...
