Synopsis

1984 tells the story of a man named Winston Smith who lives in London, in the nation of Oceania. In Oceania, everything is run by an organization called the Party, overseen by a figure known as Big Brother. Winston feels frustrated by the oppression and rigid control of the Party, which prohibits free thought, sex, and any expression of individuality. He also purchased an illegal diary in order to record his thoughts about his hatred for the Party and Big Brother, hoping to evade accusation of Thought Crime, the crime of thinking out against the Party, and avoid extermination. Throughout the course of the novel, Winston meets people who share his way of thinking and opposition to the Party, hopefully siding with him and being real in how they feel, such as understanding real love to fight against what Big Brother believes. However, how far does trust get you when it is not reciprocated?
