The Tuskegee Airmen (Red Tails) were an all-black unit of World War II aviators who were trained to fly near Auburn, Alabama after the advocacy of Eleanor Roosevelt, the president's wife.
During the war, they distinguished themselves as excellent and loyal fighters, scoring amazing, almost unbelievable, victories against Nazi planes.
At their base in Indiana, Freeman Field, the Tuskegee Airmen believed that, as officers, they had the right to access the "Officers' Club." The white commander disagreed. 101 Tuskegee Airmen entered the Officers Club against orders.
As a result of their disobedience, they were issued a reprimand for entering the Officers' Club, and were required to sign it or be Court Martialed?
