Leadership Decisions in the 1940s

The 1940s was the decade of the Second World War. A tremendous number of critical decisions had to be made by various leaders throughout the decade. Most of these decisions had something to do with the war or foreign affairs.

INSTRUCTIONS

For this Time Machine, each of you will play the role of a U.S. leader during the 1940s. When it's your turn, others in the class will be your advisors. 

1. After understanding the decision you need to make, go around the room and ascertain the opinion of your advisors.

2. Once you’ve heard everyone’s opinions, announce your decision, saying “that’s my final answer.”

3. The teacher will reveal what the actual historic decision of the leader was. 

A video clip may be provided to portray the actual historic decision.

CLASS DISCUSSION: Compare your decision with the actual history. Do you think your decision was better or worse than that which actually happened?
