The war is about to end, which means tens of thousands of soldiers will return home.
Many of these soldiers never went to college, and have no skills other than military skills
When they return, many will probably be unemployed as a result
A bill has been proposed ("GI Bill") which will give to these soldiers money for college, money for houses, job training, and, if necessary, unemployment money
The Congress has been debating this idea and is divided right down the middle. Though everyone wanted to honor the soldiers, many didn't think they should be allowed to come back and just live for free off of the taxpayers; others thought it unwise to throw older, battle-hardened, gruff ex-soldiers into college classrooms with 18 year old recent high school grads
If the bill passes, it will be expensive, raising taxes of most American taxpayers
The Congressional committee is split 50-50, and you will cast the deciding vote
DECISION: Do you support the GI bill, giving free education, housing, jobs, and unemployment checks to veterans? Or should these veterans have to find their own income when they return?
