ABSEEES is a database which allows users to search thousands of journal articles, books, dissertations, and monographs for scholarship on Russia and Eastern Europe. This database is best used for finding recent scholarship (from 1989 and forward) printed in the U.S. and Canada. A good way to get started here is to navigate to the advanced search function and enter “Russian Revolution” AND “1917”, then narrow your results to books and academic journals.

Browsing relevant journals available through Harvard Library is another way to begin your search for secondary sources. JSTOR allows you to browse (and also search) their seventeen journals related to Slavic Studies. Like ABSEES, JSTOR is a great place to find scholarship on Russia published in the west.

East View is an online resource that allows users to search aggregated databases to find scholarship printed in Russia and former Soviet countries. While users can search through hundreds of humanities and social science publications, you can also search Russian government publications. Check out the "Tips and Tricks" portion of this research guide for guidance on how to enter foreign language search terms.

The Russian National Bibliography is a database provided through East View which allows users to find citations to hundreds of Russian publications, including books, journal articles, dissertations, and monographs. This resource allows searches in Russian or in transliteration.

The Slavic Humanities Index is a relatively new database that allows users to search contemporary Slavic publications. The database is comprehensive in that it indexes not only books and journal articles but also conference papers, bibliographies, interviews, obituaries, and much more. In addition to conducting advanced searches, users can also browse subjects or indexed titles by country. The site also offers a helpful search tips page.
