Google Scholar is a discovery system offered by Google that allows users to search across a wide range of academic literature from publishers, university repositories, and other websites that it has identified as scholarly. Google scholar pulls articles, dissertations, books, conference papers, etc from a variety of sources that may be helpful to your research, but in some cases may not be peer-reviewed. For this reason, it is important to check the source's credibility when using google scholar. Be sure to check out Google Scholar's search tips page. An example of how one may conduct an advanced search in Google Scholar on the topic of the Russian revolution is below.
2. HathiTrust Digital Library

Hathitrust is an online library which provides access to thousands of digitized academic materials, under copyright and in the public domain, thanks to partnerships with over fifty libraries and research institutions. Users can conduct advanced searches and narrow results by toggling subjects on the left hand navigation. Below, see a sample search using "russia" and "revolution" as subject search terms and note the subjects on the left that can refine the search results further.
3. Directory of Open Access Journals

The Directory of Open Access journals is an online index of over nine thousand open-access peer-reviewed journals. You can browse journals by subject or use the advanced search feature to find scholarly articles on a topic related to the Russian revolution. A sample search for "Russian Revolution" limited to the subject of "History of Russia" (found on the left-hand navigation menu) produced fifty six results. Check back if you don't find what you are looking for right away -- the directory is growing every day.
4. ROAD Directory of Open Access Scholarly Resources

The ROAD Directory provides access to foreign publications, including journals published in Russia. Select Russia from the drop down menu or click on Russia in the interactive map to to browse journals published in Russia. Sort by publication, subject, date, or title.

The Directory of Open Access Books is an online directory of peer-reviewed books from academic publishers. Users can browse by title, subject, and publisher or conduct advanced searches.
