The International Kuroshio Science Symposium traces its roots to early collaborative efforts among Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines to better understand the dynamic marine environments influenced by the Kuroshio Current. Beginning with the 2007 workshop in Kochi, Japan, and followed by meetings in Taiwan and Philippines, the symposium has brought together experts to address pressing environmental and oceanographic issues across the Kuroshio region. These gatherings have focused on shared challenges such as coastal resource management, fisheries, biodiversity, and climate-linked ocean changes.
