AC Decker, MSW, LICSW
AC has over 20 years experience counseling children, young adults and parents. Since 1998, AC has worked for the Hingham Public Schools in their elementary schools providing social skill groups, individual counseling, crisis management and consultation to teachers and families. He also teaches classroom based prevention lessons (violence and bully prevention)
Prior to coming to Hingham, AC worked in the Children’s Services division of the Department of Mental Health for 6 years. His clinical training was with adults in a state psychiatric hospital and in an urban community mental health center. He also taught Biology for four years at a private boarding school and lived in the dormitory.
In looking at clinical styles and orientation, AC slants toward a family systems perspective. He integrates cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and brief therapy approaches into his practice. He also uses social thinking concepts as needed. AC works with children, adolescents, families and adults.
AC has also coached both girls and boys lacrosse at the high school level for 15 years and has a great understanding of psychological factors and can interfere with optimal performance.
AC earned his Master of Social Work degree from Simmons College in 1992. He earned his BA in Biology from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1985.
