Cap Pins, Buttons and Cockades

Cap Pins&Tins

Within the Austro-Hungarian Army it was common to wear personally acquired pins on one's cap. These often depicted battle, slogans, Patriotic imagery and etc. It appears that the Austrian started producing these for Bulgaria.

As far as I am aware these are only two models of pins that exist. Left is a Vienna made cap tin with Tzar Ferdinand I on it, probably made around 1916(In my personal collection). This model is for sure made by the Austro-Hungarians. The right I a cap badge that is a stick grenade. Unclean who made these.

Cockades

There are three kinds of cockade, enlisted, personal purchase/officer ceremic, and personal purchase/officer metal. For this unit ideally everyone will have a enlisted cockade.

Examples:

Above: These are both enlisted cockades, left has prongs on the back, right is sewed on(?). This are low profile and paint is oil based. Left should be painted.

Above: These are both personal purchase/officer cockades. Left is ceramic, right is metal(in my collection). These are much higher profile than enlisted, these are also painted in enamel instead of oil based. Sometimes metal ones(right) where painted white to resemble the ceramic cockade. These can be seen on occasionally being worn on enlisted hats, however only for some NCOs, not all.

Left: Example of enlisted wearing personal purchase/officer cockade.

Buttons

Bulgarian enlisted button, plated brass. This one has a Russian company maker mark on the back, this button is probably pre-war, but identical to ones worn from 1915-1918. (in my personal collection)
