One thing is for certain, there are a lot of different programs out there to help you with your education goals.
The first part is figuring out which ones you can use.
The VA has GI Bills. I recommend referring to the GI Bills by their Chapter, and not by their name, simply because the names are very similar and can be confused easily.
The current GI Bill Chapters most often used are Ch. 1606, Ch. 30, and Ch. 33. You can compare the different $ amounts from the varying GI Bills using this tool:
Here are the different GI Bills in my own language.
Most first term 133rd Airlift Wing Airmen will use GI Bill Chapter 1606. This pays a monthly stipend while you are in school. Most members use this and the STR at the same time. Ch. 1606 and STR are 2 separate programs managed differently. Ch. 1606 is managed by the VA and the STR is managed within your Unit and supported by our JFHQ MN National Guard State Incentive Team.
This is managed by the VA and is for our members who have deployed, been AGR, Active Duty or on ADOS you may be eligible for GI Bill Chapter 33 (also called the Post 9/11 GI Bill) as well as STR (linked above).
This one pays School Tuition, Basic Allowance for Housing, and a Book Stipend to qualifying members.
The amount of money you get depends on the amount of time you served deployed, AGR, Active Duty or on ADOS.
If you are eligible for Chapter 33, you may also be eligible to transfer this GI Bill to your dependents. That is called TEB (Transfer Education Benefits).
This is managed by the VA and is for our members that were prior Active Duty and elected to buy into the program. Most members who have this know, because money was taken from their paycheck during their initial service period.
Funding Flight School
This is a document from the JFHQ State Incentive and Education Benefits team.
This is managed by MN DVA. If you enlisted in Minnesota and are a Minnesota Resident with 5 years of service, you may be eligible for the MN GI Bill.
STR (STATE TUITION REIMBURSEMENT)
STR is managed within your Unit and supported by our JFHQ MN National Guard State Incentive Team. This reimburses members for tuition costs. Up to $18,000/school year for undergraduate & up to $28,000/school year for post-graduate schools.
