Thirteen unclaimed veterans and one spouse urns were laid to rest.
The Missing in America Project (M.I.A.P.) is a nationwide non-profit organization dedicated to a very specific mission: finding and providing a dignified burial for "forgotten" veterans. Many veterans’ cremated remains (cremains) sit unclaimed on the shelves of funeral homes, hospitals, and coroners' offices—sometimes for decades—because there is no known family to claim them. M.I.A.P. volunteers work to identify these remains, verify their military service records, and coordinate with the Department of Veterans Affairs to ensure they receive a proper military burial.
When you attend an M.I.A.P. ceremony, you are witnessing a repatriation and interment service. Because these veterans often have no family present, the community and fellow veterans step in to serve as their "family."

The project's guiding principle is that no veteran should be left behind. They aim to bridge the gap between a veteran's death and their right to be buried with the honor and respect earned through their service to the country. Since its founding in 2007, the project has located thousands of veterans and interred them in cemeteries across the United States.
