In 1948, a small airport called Meigs Field opened, but this site closed in 1996. The following year, after a new initiative called for the replacement of outdated facilities on the lakefront, the Chicago Park District constructed a new beach house at 12th Street.

12th Avenue S is a crucial bike, pedestrian, and transit corridor through some of the densest and most diverse parts of the city, connecting Little Saigon to Beacon Hill. As Seattle grows and demand on the street increases from everyone from residents of Yesler Terrace to businesses and patrons in Little Saigon to bicyclists arriving from Beacon Hill or the Mountain to Sounds Trail, it is important to ensure that 12th Ave S serves as a safe and accessible route for people of all ages and abilities. In partnership with neighboring communities, SDOT is committed to identifying and investing in safety and mobility improvements along the corridor.

There has been more than 15 total combined vehicle and pedestrian and vehicle and bicyclist collisions reported at the intersection of 12th Ave S and S Weller St, 24 total combined collisions between S Weller St and S Charles St, and 5 combined collisions at the intersection of 12th Ave S and S Charles St between 2004 and 2017.

While the Bicycle Master Plan Implementation Plan recommends a Protected Bike Lane on 12th Ave S between E Yesler Way and S Charles St, this project focused on the segment between S King St and S Charles St. The segment of 12th Ave north of this project, connecting S King St to E Yesler Way, was part of the Seattle City Council Resolution 31826 (Seattle Center City Bike Network) passed in July 2018. However, SDOT conducted traffic data analysis and modeling of the corridor as a whole and found that adding a Protected Bike Lane north of S King St would impact intersections at E Yesler Way, Boren Ave, and S Jackson St, adding significant delay and queue lengths. Streetcar and transit would experience the most delays. In balancing our modal priorities of streetcar speed and reliability, transit needs, and bicycle safety, this project can not continue north of S King St at this time. SDOT staff is continuing to evaluate alternatives to continue all ages and abilities bike facilities north.

12th Fail is a 2023 Indian Hindi-language biographical drama film produced, written and directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. It is based on the 2019 eponymous non-fiction book by Anurag Pathak about the real-life story of Manoj Kumar Sharma, who overcame extreme poverty to become an Indian Police Service officer.[4] The film stars Vikrant Massey as the protagonist, alongside Medha Shankar, Anant V Joshi, Anshumaan Pushkar, and Priyanshu Chatterjee.

Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV gave 3.5 stars out of 5 and said It's an original depiction of an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer's life, 12th Fail is a thought-provoking and amusing film. A really sympathetic story is produced by the screenplay. It avoids any kind of extravagance in order to extract every last bit of drama from the bump and tumble of the man's journey.[22] Mayank Shekhar of Mid-day gave 4 stars out of 5 and reviewed the movie "This is the India story!".[23] Monika Rawal Kukreja of Hindustan Times stated in her reviews that 12th Fail is a must-watch to understand not only the hardships and emotions that UPSC students go through, but it also sheds light on the overall education in our system, something that Chopra won hearts at with 3 Idiots.[24]

Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express gave 3 stars out of 5 and wrote that In spite of the soundtrack and the sporadic upswings in mood, 12th Fail mostly remains a grounded reality film with characters who seem to have wandered off the street and are hanging out with us, sharing life lessons sprinkled with inspiration. Not only does it feature a large cast, but it also features a large number of young people who congregate in areas popular with coaching facilities, like Mukherjee Nagar in North Delhi. The image of these people, crammed into small spaces far from their homes and studying day and night in an attempt to pass exams and change who they are, is a quintessential Indian story.[25] Deepa Gahlot of rediff.com praised the performance of Vikrant Massey and said 'If Vikrant Massey does not win a National Award for this film, it will be unjust to an actor who has given a performance of such unalloyed brilliance'.[26] Dhaval Roy of The Times of India gave 4 stars out of 5 and stated in his review that "12th Fail" is an excellent film that is highly recommended, with nearly every scene over its 147 minutes leaving you feeling inspired and amazed. Bravo to Chopra for making sure each character in the film is given their best chance.[27] Bhavna Agarwal of indiatoday gave 4 stars out of 5 and wrote "Vikrant Massey passes with flying colours on performance sheet".[28]

This project will widen the northbound SR 900/17 Avenue NW approach to 12th Avenue NW to construct an exclusive right-turn lane and widen 12th Avenue NW approach at SR 900/NW Sammamish Road to provide an additional left-turn lane for added capacity.

Until the work at the intersection is completed the new right turn lane on SR 900/17th Ave NW and the additional left turn lane on 12th Ave will remain closed. The pedestrian detour at the south corner of the intersection will remain in effect.

On Sept. 27, 2021 a semi-truck transporting an excavator on I-5 struck the 12th Street overpass, damaging a girder supporting the bridge. We closed the eastbound lane of the bridge, reducing it to a single lane, to reduce weight on the damaged girder.

The 12th Space Warning Squadron (12 SWS) operates the Upgraded Early Warning Radar (UEWR), formerly the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS) - Site 1, at Pituffik Space Base, Greenland. 12 SWS is part of the Integrated Tactical Warning and Attack Assessment network, which provides early warning of ballistic missile launches to National Command Authorities via the Missile Warning Center and North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).

In 1946, a combined Danish-American radio and weather station was established at Dundas, later called Thule. International tensions prompted Denmark and the United States to sign a defense treaty allowing the construction of a complete air base. Thule AB, much as it exists today, was built during the summers of 1951 and 1952.

The origin of 12 SWS dates back to the establishment of the BMEWS-Site 1 in 1961. Throughout the years, several commands were responsible for the base, including Northeast Air Command, Air Defense Command, and Strategic Air Command.

The unit was first designated as the 12th Missile Warning Squadron and later became the 12th Missile Warning Group. Air Force Space Command (AFSPC) assumed control of Thule AB in 1983 and the unit was re-designated as the 12 SWS in 1992. In June 1987, the BMEWS mechanical radar was upgraded to the more efficient and capable solid-state, phased array system in existence today, and is now known as the UEWR.

On Dec. 20, 2019, United States Space Force was officially established and 12 SWS became a part of the newest branch of the United States Department of Defense. On July 24, 2020, the 12 SWS was transferred to Space Delta 4, Buckley SFB. On April 6, 2023, Thule Air Base was renamed Pituffik Space Base (pronounced bee-do-FEEK) in recognition of the former Inuit hunting settlement in the vicinity of the base.
