Step 7: We admit that this cannot be fully fixed with monetary compensation and attempt to re-orientate ourselves outside the lie of history we have been fed.

This is a time to understand that one must understand that our true history does not flatter us. As James Baldwin writes, “This is the place in which it seems to me, more white Americans find themselves. Impaled. They are dimly, or vividly, aware that the history they have fed themselves is mainly a lie” (723). In this step, one should take this understanding with humility in order to be in a position to change.
