The Mating Season
6 - A Portly Conversation
Alone with the port and Bertie/Gussie Esmond Haddock confides in him his love for Corky, saying that his attention for Gertrude Winkworth is just to make her jealous enough to come back to him. The port flows freely and the two men start to rehearse a hunting song when Dame Daphne returns to send Esmond away to play backgammon with Gertrude, asking Bertie/Gussie if he brought the dog with him that chased her sister Charlotte around the room. On the affirmation of this, hearing that Sam is Corky's dog she decides to have him sent to the vicarage and suggests to Bertie he should go to bed. When Silversmith shows Bertie his room he asks him whether his man has arrived, which Silversmith confirms.
