Thirty-five short stories and ten full length novels, all about Jeeves, the personal gentleman's gentleman, and Bertram Wilberforce Wooster, his master. No murders, no sex, no improper language, no car crashes, no explicit violence: Pelham Granville Wodehouse has left us a world where the weather is almost invariably sunny, the lodgings as impressive as their inhabitants' titles, the girls young and attractive, the young boys obnoxious, the friends always there to be helped in need and the aunts varying in disposition from iron maiden style to joyfully bonhomous.
Over two hundred characters live within the Jeeves and Wooster stories. Some are regular visitors, some appear only once or in just a few stories, and a number of them are interrelated by family ties or by recurring amorous connections, almost invariably leading to engagements, which are nearly as often broken off as they are made. Actual marriages do seldom occur in the Jeeves and Wooster world: not suprising because every marriage would lessen the pool of prenuptial candidates, whose amorous complications provide us with an ocean of delightful stories in which to indulge ourselves.
This site provides you with an opportunity to explore the stories and the characters Wodehouse has created within the Jeeves and Wooster world. Pick a story to find out which characters play their parts therein, or select a character to see in which stories (s)he lives. Refresh your memory by reading the summaries provided - or read a completely summarized book in a few minutes. You may also use the magnifier in the menu to find your favourite character or content.
I expect you will find the intricacy and meticulousness with which Wodehouse constructed this imaginary and wholly enjoyable world as awesome, wholesome, and restorative in these times of distraught as I experienced while constructing this database in his honour. Enjoy!
