Esmond is exuberantly joyous after his performance at the concert and by the fact that it has caused Corky to fall for him again, but he is not sure how to assert his newly found authority with his aunts, reason why Bertie refers him to Jeeves. While Esmond is out looking for him Jeeves comes in and announces that Gussie has left for London after he has helped him remove his green Pat and Mike beard. Bertie tells Jeeves that Gussie has gone to see Madeline after having broken up with Corky. At the following lunch Esmond pokes Silversmith playfully in the ribs and refuses to succumb to his aunt Daphne's authoritative questioning. Then Silversmith announces the arrival of Constable Dobbs.
