After Jeeves has informed him of having successfully put together a claque to support Esmond Haddock at the coming concert Bertie tells him of his fear that Corky is planning some sort of revenge on Constable Dobbs for locking up Sam Goldwyn, a revenge in which Gussie probably would play an ominous role leading to his arrest. He asks Jeeves to try and persuade Gussie not to do anything rash and at the same time take from Tosh the cuss the young man is planning to use on Dobbs, to which Jeeves concurs. Continuing his walk Bertie then passes the police station where he sees Gussie in the company of Constable Dobbs, the latter seemingly eager to grab the former by collar and trousers.
