The Mating Season
2 - A Task For Bertie
Catsmeat enlightens Bertie on Deverill Hall where Gertrude Winkworth, whom he is in love with, lives with her mother and her aunts under the same roof as Esmond Haddock, whom he suspects of triying to wrangle Gertrude away from him. Catsmeat himself is not welcome at Deverill Hall because the aunts dislike his acting profession and have an equal diskike for his sister Corky, who works at the vicarage. Catsmeat wants Bertie to keep an eye out for any advances Esomd Haddock might make to Gertrude, and informs him that he will play the part of Pat in a sketch Catsmeat has written for the occasion. The gratitude Catsmeat feels for his cooperation is shown in his willingness to give dinner to Gussie Fink-Nottle on Bertie's request.
