On the telephone is Bertie's aunt Dahlia, who tells him that she was a little surprised to see Gussie and his Emerald appear unannounced at Brinkley but that Emerald, being a cook, was very welcome because Anatole has come down with something. She also tells Bertie that she has come into some heritage money and wants to spend it on the amber statuette for her husband Tom. She asks Bertie to buy it off Sir Watkyn, to which he reluctantly agrees.
