Bertie stays with Bingo Little and his Rosie for the Lakenham races. Also staying there is Laura Pyke, a friend of Rosie's,  a health freak who forces them into meagre meals and drinkless days. When Bertie drives the ladies back from the race  his car breaks down. As he goes looking for help a row breaks out between the ladies and Laura wants to break off her  stay and return to her home. Jeeves, arriving in Bingo's car with which they have followed, obliges. Bingo takes his wife to  the house Bertie has gone to for help. It appears that Jeeves has arranged Bertie's car to run out of gas to spark the  ladies' disagreement…
