Bingo is in love with the niece of the Rev. Heppenstalll, Mary Burgess, who is staying at the vicarage of Wickersham. He has a rival in the young Rev. Wingham who is alse staying there. Trying to impress Mary he writes a school musical to be performed in the town Hall, where everything goes wrong. Moreover Steggles the bookie has made a book on Bingo's chances with Mary. Mary ultimately marries Wingham and all bets fall through.
