After having been rudely awakened Bertie finds himself entrusted by Aunt Dahlia with the task of distributing the yearly prizes at the Market Snodsbury Grammar School, something the local vicar traditionally would perform but now has to be handed to someone else because of his sudden incapacitation. Since Aunt Dahlia is on the school board she has to find a replacement and cannot involve her husband because she still has to break the news to him about her losing a disproportionate amount of money in the Cannes casino while vacationing there. Bertie's protests dwindle when threatened to be expelled from Anatole's cooking. Aunt Dahlia leaves, expecting Bertie to be at Brinkley Court in a few days, when Jeeves announces the arrival of Gussie Fink-Nottle.
