On returning to Brinkley Hall Bertie is met by Madeline Bassett, who asks him to release her from their engagement, to which he gladly agrees. Seeing Tuppy, he hears that Angela and he have made up their differences and are together again. Alse Aunt Dahlia is in high spririts because Anatole has agreed to stay and Tom, relieved, has giving her the cheque she needs to pay Milady's Boudoir's printer. Then Jeeves comes along to explain the sudden reconciliation of all. It seems that the unanimous feeling of disgust with Bertie's meddling was turned into general mirth at the thought of him having to pedal nine miles back and forth in the night hours in vain. In the end Bertie acquiesces with Jeeves' actions, even when informed that his white French dinner jacket has not survived ironing.
