A dishevelled Tuppy emerges from the bushes and tries to get at Bertie. A struggle ensues with Tuppy threatening Bertie with bodily harm, Bertie in turn trying to explain that his conversation with Angela was meant to reunite him with her. This does not strike the believer's chord with Tuppy, who accuses Bertie of being the man who tried to steal Angela away from him in Cannes. Bertie denies this vehemently and tells him that he is actually in love with Honoria Glossop. Tuppy seems to be more or less convinced when Angela arrives with a plate of sandwiches which she asks Bertie to hand to Tuppy because, as she says, he must by now be hungry again since dinner was more than an hour ago. This does not go over well with Tuppy.
