While pondering a lifelike painting of Aunt Agatha in his uncle's study Bertie is aware of him approaching from the garden while altercating with Boko, accompanied by a pichfork-carrying employee. Boko apparantly hid himself in the grass where Lord Percy stepped on him and subsequently chased him off the grounds. Bertie is welcomed in Lord Percy's study where his uncle congratulates him on having kicked Edwin in the butt, something Uncle Percy would have liked to have done himself for some time but was prevented from by Florence. He still needs to talk to Cichester Clam about the merger, but mr. Clam is so shaken by his experience in the potting shed that this location has become impossible to use. Jeeves is called in for a solution, but he can offer none, saying he is baffled. Sir Percy turns to Bertie for help, who goes outside to brood, where he meets Nobby.
