Having changed into dry gear Bertie sees Bobbie and Kipper in his room. Kipper says Aunt Dahlia has come up with a new plan whereby Bertie would verbally insult Upjohn, then to be  rebuked by Kipper who would follow up by trying to raise compassion in Upjohn for his - Kipper's - fate at the Morning Star. Bertie goes to see Upjohn in his room but Phyllis bounces in and wants a private talk with her stepfather. A little while later Bertie encounters Aunt Dahlia, who breaks the news that Phyllis is now engaged to Wilbert Cream.
