Grading

In the art program, grades are a form of assessment that are used to communicate overall performance as students. They are not used to evaluate the quality of artwork. For that reason, all student artwork is graded on the basis of completion (either "complete" or "incomplete").

Meanwhile, several channels exist through which students receive feedback on their work and guidance to help them develop their artistic skills:

• Instructor notes given directly to students, both oral and written
• Written peer assessments
• Structured group critiques in which students learn and demonstrate productive methods of comprehending artwork and giving criticism
