Everything you need for this course can be found on this website, but you still need come to class organised and ready to work.
Please bring your laptop, textbook, workbook and stationary to every class.
Have a storage system for your notes, assessments and classwork.
There is a lot of content to cover, organisation is one of the keys to a successful Economic student
KEEP UP WITH COURSEWORK
There is a lot of content to cover. The outline for the year, syllabus and assessment dates are all on this website. It is important that you keep up with the outlined program. This means focusing on the day by day lessons and getting the most out of the classroom situation. This includes doing consistent and regular homework. This can take several forms:
Set homework given by Mr Vlahov
Finishing off incomplete class work.
Ongoing revision, note-taking and review of your work
Preparing for upcoming assessments
FOCUS ON YOUR ASSESSMENTS
The assessment program is outlined on this website. There are no surprises. Prepare early.
Just about all assessments will be in-class and under test conditions.
All assessments and exams must be kept for the year in case they are required for moderation purposed by the Curriculum Council.
If you are away on the day of an assessment or when an assessment is due to be handed in you must do two things:
Bring in a note, medical certificate or have you parents call your teacher on the day to explain your absence.
Negotiate as soon as possible with your teacher a day when you can sit the test (for practice only). You will receive a standardised score
The consequences of not following the above will be a zero for the assessment and parents informed.
EFFECTIVE NOTES
Almost every top Economic student I have taught over 20 years has had a well-structured, effective note-taking strategy.
Good notes are essential, particularly come exam time. Mr Vlahov will guide you on how to effectively structure your notes, but you must keep up. This will require hard work and using class and home time effectively.
The easiest way to structure notes is to follow the syllabus dotpoints. These are what you are examined on and you must understand every single dotpoint, key terminology, diagrams and application to the real world.
CLASSROOM PARTICIPATION AND PRESENTATIONS
Come to class ready to participate and join in classroom discussion. Don't just be a pedestrian, be active and share your thoughts. To do this you must keep up to date with course content and real world Economics.
As a member of this class you will be required to present at least once on an interesting real world Economic event. This needs preparation and a high standard is expected. More on this later.
ASK QUESTIONS
Seek help and advice from teachers, your parents and fellow students.
We can all learn from each other.
Do not leave it too late to seek help, particularly if you feel you are falling behind or are struggling with understanding your work.
TUNE INTO REAL WORLD ECONOMICS
The best Economic Students are able to apply course content to real world context.
It is one thing knowing every word of your Economic textbook, it is another to apply it to the real world.
Examiners expect your answers to include real life examples and statistics (especially from Australia)
Read, watch the news, listen to Podcasts, speak to your parents, immerse yourself into the real world of Economics.
HAVE FUN AND A POSITIVE ATTITUDE
Learning Economics can be a positive, interesting and fun experience. If you try and come with that approach, no doubt it will become one of your favourite subjects.
Economics is not just all reading and note taking. There are a variety of recommended YouTube Channels, Podcasts and websites to help tune you into the real world of Economics. This is a crazy and fascinating time in the world of Economics, it is vital that you immerse yourself into as much content as possible. This gives course content much more context and keeps you motivated throughout the year.
Be resilient, things will be tough occasionally, but with a strong work ethic and mindset you will eventually succeed this course.
And it goes without saying, respect one another, myself and let's get through this together.
