REUNIONS - Lunch at RAF Club, London, Jan 14th - HAA Legacy event at NMA 2nd July with entry reunion in evening at The George Hotel, Lichfield.
Welcome to the new official website of the 106th entry of Aircraft Apprentices at RAF Halton. Many will have seen the previous website but unfortunately due to very tragic circumstances that site became unmanageable. In order to move forward it was necessary to create a new site that could continue to be updated. Both members and visitors alike are free to comment using the email at the bottom of the page.
106th Entry - No.1 School of Technical Training, RAF Halton; our Motto: Optimum et Omega, "The Best and the Last" of Trenchards Brats, training in a single trade over three years.
The motto should have read modestly: ULTIMUS OPTIMORUM "The last of the best" but we didn't know the Latin translation at the time!
14th January 1964, 165 Aircraft Apprentices arrived to join the 106th Entry, 159 graduating at the Passing Out Ceremony on the 14th December 1966.
Officer Cadetships: 11, Direct Entry Commissions: 4, ONC's: 74%
Since those formative years many of us continue to maintain contact through reunions held either in conjunction with the RAF Halton Apprentices Triennial Reunions or separately to celebrate a landmark year or milestone.
In 2010 the entry historians put together a fairly comprehensive review of the entry's time at Halton.

No 1 School of Technical Training (No 1 SoTT) is the Royal Air Force’s aircraft engineering school. From 1919 to 1993 the No 1 SoTT was based at RAF Halton and from 1920 until 1993 the School was the home of the Aircraft Apprentice Scheme. This scheme, which included Sir Frank Whittle "father of the jet engine", trained RAF technicians on a 3 year course, the graduates of which were the best trained technicians in the RAF and would usually go on to become Senior NCOs.
In 1952 the No 1 SoTT received royal recognition when Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II presented the School with a colour. The colour was received on behalf of the school by the 63rd Entry of aircraft apprentices; the colour party being Sergeant Aircraft Apprentice (S/A/A) F.M. Hines, and identical twins S/A/A’s Clive and Richard Grant.
From 1993 to the present, the No 1 SoTT has been based at the Defence College of Aeronautical Engineering, Cosford (formerly RAF Cosford).
The Royal Air Force Apprentices' Association (RAFHAA), the Old Haltonians, was formed in 1980 to meet the need for a point of focus for all those young persons who as 'Trenchard Brats' went through the 'Halton Grinder' and emerged at the other end as fully-fledged tradesmen to support the needs of the RAF...
If you were a 'Trenchard Brat' and not already a member, why not join this elite group; we have regular reunions involving hundreds of your ex-colleagues. Every November we organise the annual Apprentices Service of Remembrance at the Halton Tribute. We also have our own garden of remembrance at the National Memorial Arboretum. The arranging of individual and entry visits to Halton House, The Trenchard Museum and the Apprentice Archives are other services provided to members of the Association.
