Description:
In module 7 we talked about the impacts social media has on people, whether that could be positive or negative.
I was required to take a survey called "Am I Addicted to Social Media?" The results of my test were what I mainly expected them to be. The results told me I'm fairly reliant on social media, and that there are fair worse. But I am still on social media a lot and should take some time off of it. According to the Pew Reasearch Center, 64% of Americans say that social media has a negative effect on the country as a whole. I chose this static because it shows that more than half of our country thinks that social media has a negative effect on our society, which tells me that a change is needed. Social media has taken over our lives, it's nice to know there are others who thinks that it's not healthy for us.
I believe that social media does have a negative effect on society. There is a lot of false information that is spread using social media. Something that I have witnessed firsthand while using social media is negative body image towards myself. Social media at times can make me very insecure in myself and hurt my confidence, and I don't think that is something young kids, or anyone should go through. I have seen social media used for good, but the good doesn't always outweigh the bad.
Lessons learned:
This module has taught me a lot about social media and the impacts of social media on our society. It was interesting to read all of the statistics and other people's opinions on social media.
