What is Surfer SEO?
Surfer SEO is a next level application that's all web based that allows you to see exactly the changes, modifications, while giving you instructions on what to do so you can rank on the first page of Google's search engines.
It helps you optimize your website for search engines. It provides you with data-driven insights so you can make changes to your site that will improve your ranking in search results. Surfer SEO also offers a keyword research tool, so you can find the right keywords to target on your website.
The way it works is it analyzes patterns in the top 20 results of Google, then spits out exactly what you should be creating for your content and auditing your content for the changes you need to make.
Inside this Surfer SEO review, you'll see all the bells and whistles along with the pricing.
NLP Sentiment Analysis
Surfer uses an integrated natural language processing tool. This feature enables you to analyze data on search terms.
If you're not an expert with SEO, then just know this helps to analyze your competitors for those currently ranking int the top of the serps and giving you insight and analysis of what to include in your content.
With everything graded, you don't need to know complex codes or anything with the algorithm.
Surfer's Keyword Research Tool: Find New Keywords to Target
Inside Surfer, you're armed with a Keyword research tool.
It works like most keyword tools.
Enter seed words into the text field.
In addition, it offers another useful feature I have not seen in other tools: SEO similarity.
These are basically the keywords you entered into the tool and similar keywords but Surfer tells you how many of the top 20 results are ranking for these additional keywords.
This gives you real data to see if you should create one piece of content versus different content pieces.
Content Editor
After you have your keyword, it's time to write your content.
The Content Editor is a WYSIWYG editor that allows you to input your text, images, and videos right into the tool.
Once you have all your content in place, you can start optimizing it for better rankings.
There are 4 optimization features:
SEO score
Readability score
Engagement score
Correlation score.
You can then take your Surfer SEO content and either paste it in your Wordpress eitor, or you can export these to Google Docs.
This is a great way to get your on page SEO under Surfer guidelines, then transfer it to Google Docs for your outsourcer or virtual assistant to post to your blog.
What I love about this Content Editor is it gives you on page SEO analysis in real time and shows you exactly how many instances of your main keyword to use along with any other variations of target keywords, content length, and you can even use your existing content to see what adjustments to make.
SERP Analyzer Tool
The Surfers SEO features are the most important. It is basically a quite thorough breakdown of SERP for a specific keyword.
It gives you some critical info from a 30,000 foot view.
It's quick, it's easy, and anyone can understand the process after looking at this report.
The details from Surfer are a lot easier to read and complete than other competing software applications.
Content Planner
The Content Planner is a great way to see what content you need to build.
Instead of just focusing on a keyword, you'll want to focus on the entire content hub.
That means you discuss the topic completely instead of just writing about singular keywords.
In most of the scenarios, sites are rewarded based on how authoritative they may be about a particular topic.
What the Surfer Content Planner does is give you an outline of all the content you need to write in order to be considered an authoritative source on a topic to cover it in complete detail.
Under normal circumstances, this would take you hours upon hours of research, however using Surfer's Content Planner, you simply plugin your seed keyword, and it will spit out all the correlated topics that you can can write about.
Inside that screen, you can click a button to launch Surfer's Content Editor so you can begin writing and creating your content.
Who Uses Surfer?
Literally anyone looking to gain a competitive advantage with SEO can use Surfer SEO.
Surfer SEO Alternatives
Inside, we'll go over popular alternatives to Surfer.
Ultimately, Surfer SEO is the complete tool for helping you analyze your on page SEO efforts, planning content, and making better decisions for your planning and creating content that the search engines.
Surfer SEO vs Cora
Cora is an SEO software application that offers a lot of features similar to Surfer. However, there are some key differences between the two.
First, Cora is more way more expensive than Surfer. Secondly Cora gives all the data in spreadsheets so you're navigating through an extensive amount of data all through spreadsheets.
Cora in all reality probably gives you more data points and the guys behind Cora certainly know their stuff.
However, it's our experience that Surfer provides an easier user interface taking complex data making it simpler to read.
So, if you're looking for an SEO tool that is more affordable and easier to use, then Surfer SEO may be a better option for you.
Surfer vs Frase IO
Frase IO offers similar features to Surfer SEO along with content creation.
Both tools provide great support and offer incredible data.
In our experience, Surfer has more and provides easier to read data for optimizing your content and analyzing your content with what's being displayed in Google.
What I Like About Surfer
The unique features of the Surfers platform have consistently impressed me along with the massive amounts of updates they've made over the years.
The ease of the user interface is what makes this software so great. The fact that it analyzes your competitor's data and gives you an SEO report is awesome.
The software makes extensive use of tables, which can be customized according to your needs but at the end of the day it takes a complex topic like Search Engine Optimization.
The pricing is very affordable
The community is a great bonus for Surfer users getting feedback on their current campaigns all inside their Facebook user group.
Cons
I only have two issues with Surfer and really these aren't necessarily on the software.
For starters, Surfer puts everything into grades.
What I've found is many people will wait until their content gets near perfect to publish their content.
Some of this is from the misconceptions related to SEO that your content needs to be perfect. While the score helps, it also prevents others from publishing less than perfect content.
For example, at the time of writing this very piece of content, I've got a 41 score.
At the end of this, it will probably be more along the lines of a 60-70 score but will never reach a 90-100.
If you wait till you get a 90, you're not going to be publishing the amount you need to be successful.
Also, scores in the 90-100 can sometimes be over-optimized.
Secondly, the suggested word count is often inflated.
You'll see often the word count being double or triple what's actually necessary.
The reason?
Surfer will look at the entire contents on the page.
Header
Sidebar
Footer
Blog Comments
That means some of the actual content on the page is the actual structure to the site, along with blog comments.
If the blogger has a big active list, then blog comments and user generated content can boost the overall number of words that Surfer is telling you to create which could very well be overkill.
Surfer SEO Pricing
Surfer SEO pricing is very affordable especially considering everything you're getting as part of this incredible tool.
The best part about the Surfer packages is you can start using the software for 100% free and track using their new Grow Flow feature.

Conclusion - Is It Worth it?
I would consider Surfer SEO to be the # 1 SEO software to hit the market in the last 5 years.
It's a tool that I can't imagine an SEO professional being without.
For starters, if you're going into any market that's remotely competitve, you'll need to understand your competition is probably using Surfer SEO features.
It does the work of 3 outsourcers analyzing data in mere minutes.
Plus, with the addition of Grow Flow, it's making SEO so much easier telling you exactly what to do and when to do it.
I'd highly recommend joining especially with the attractive Surfer SEO pricing and packages they have available.
