Celebrating 10 years of Gravitational Waves

Rationale

The detection of GW150914 on September 14, 2015, marked a historic milestone in astrophysics as the first direct observation of gravitational waves, confirming a major prediction of Einstein’s general theory of relativity and inaugurating the era of gravitational wave astronomy. A decade later, the impact of this discovery continues to expand across multiple scientific disciplines. Australian scientists played an essential role in the discovery though contributions to the Advanced LIGO detector's hardware and data analysis tools. 

This 2-day workshop aims to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of GW150914 by bringing together the Australian research community to celebrate the Australian contribution to GW150914, Advanced LIGO, and the last 10 years of gravitational-wave discoveries. We will explore future directions, including the next breakthrough gravitational-wave discoveries and the possibility of building a gravitational-wave observatory in Australia. 

Conference Details 

The event will be held at Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia.
