History
The company was established in 1970 as a result of the agrarian reform in Peru, which expropriated the lands of the former Hacienda Andahuasi, owned by the Wong family. The company was initially managed by a cooperative of workers, but later faced financial and operational difficulties due to mismanagement, corruption and political interference. In 1997, the company was privatized and listed on the Lima Stock Exchange, attracting new investors and capital. The Wong family regained control of the company in 2009, after a legal dispute with another group of shareholders led by Dionisio Romero Paoletti, the chairman of Credicorp. The company has since improved its productivity, quality and profitability, as well as diversified its products and markets.
