This group was started due to the severe lack of opportunities in the industry from students, apart from graduate programs. While other professions such as law, media and business are allowed to run internships, the unfornutate nature of the work this industry undertakes makes it difficult to bring on short-term interns. That's where we come in! Instead of internships, we run projects right here that are designed to build on student's tactical intelligence skills and analysis.
Our group works on desktop-based research projects that are conducted in a way that gains decision advantage (intelligence), to then be provided to a client or posted on our website for people to read. We also have a capability for active monitoring of live situations where the preservation or recording of information is critical. This allows members to gain an insight into what a national monitoring/situation room may feel like, and hones their critical thinking and analytical judgement under pressure.
This group is open to anyone - we don't discriminate. Anyone looking to enter the policing, intelligence or security industry is welcome to join, however we will preface that students who aren't studying a degree or units in security studies or intelligence may find the work a bit more challenging to understand, but don't let that discourage you! We will help you and provide training and coaching to help you be your best!
We look for people with a strong interest in building their intelligence skills so they can use that in their career development. People interested in one of our research areas listed on the home page would also be strong candiates for our group. Additionally, anyone with research skills and the willingness to learn, get involved and make a difference is welcome in our group.
Our projects are desktop-based research reports on current global events in line with our research areas. We use a variety of sources to gain a wide understanding of the situation, including government and non-government sources. We also utilise our political knowlege and experience to reach a conclusion, which provides that element of decision advantage that gives critical intelligence its purpose. We are often asked whether members are to stick to one focus area and the answer is no. We encourage members to explore which areas of research they are interested in and to find their best fit. You can change depending on what's happening in the world or just purely based on what you're interested in.
Absolutely! We're all about supporting you to reach your full potential. If you have a question about a report your working on, our team is readily available to answer questions. Training and professional development is also something that is offered through the duration of your membership.
We are always looking for new members. As a small group, we are looking to expand our membership, so there's no right or wrong time to join! There's always something happening that's worth researching, and that's why we need people who are self-driven, critical thinkers to take on the challenge.
