The 031 Underground Comic & Cartooning Club (UCCC) is a Durban-based collective aimed at promoting local comic art, writing and cartooning.

After a successful pilot workshop in December 2025, we are aiming to hold more sessions throughout the year detailing various aspects of the cartooning craft; helping you conceive, visualize and put your stories and characters into panels on the page. Ultimately, we hope to publish some of the work in a collaborative ‘zine with your fellow participants.

The comic book industry is a tough nut to crack, especially here in South Africa, where there is very little infrastructure for such. However, it has become very evident that there is an abundance of raw local talent and passion… so, although we can’t promise you’ll become a millionaire from our workshops, we can guarantee you’ll understand better how to tell a good story!

With your help, the 031 UCCC wants to build a space, a platform, a community for alternative artists and creative voices to be heard and seen.
